Top achievers honoured by CGA-Canada

CGA-Canada (Certified General Accountants Association of Canada) recognizes 20 students and new CGAs for their outstanding academic achievement.

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate this year’s top academic achievers,” said Terry LeBlanc, Chair of CGA-Canada. “These individuals are exceptional performers with bright futures.”

  • The ENCON Group Inc. Insurance Public Practice Award, worth $5,000, goes to Kevin (Lei) Li of Vancouver. This award recognizes the CGA graduating in public practice with the highest average mark in the Advanced External Auditing and Advanced Personal and Corporate Taxation exams.
  • The Porter Hétu International Award, worth $1,500, goes to Amie Elliott of Deloraine, Manitoba. This award recognizes the CGA graduating in public practice with the highest final course mark in Advanced External Auditing.
  • The Carswell Taxation Award, which comes with a $1,000 gift certificate, goes to Sarah Carty of Victoria. This award recognizes the student with the highest grade in Advanced Personal and Corporate Taxation.

CGA-Canada’s Awards of Excellence honour the highest academic achievers within each level of the CGA program. Vivien Ling Ju Lin of Richmond, British Columbia, receives the Award of Excellence at the certification level. Other Award of Excellence winners are Patricia Horobec, Edmonton (Level 4), Britt Lampe, Vancouver (Level 3), Joanna Zelazny, Brampton, Ontario (Level 2), and Jonathan Curry, Halifax (Level 1).

The Top Ten Recognition Awards honour the strongest academic performers among newly certified members nationwide. The recipients are: Jolaine-Amélie Kenny, Shippagan, New Brunswick; Vivien Ling Ju Lin, Richmond, British Columbia; Christina Zschocke, Edmonton; Benny Yanhua Ruan, Burnaby, British Columbia; Bing Zhou, Toronto; Arun Nanthakumaran, Toronto; Raphael Maliekal, Toronto; Vipul Popli, Brampton, Ontario, and Tulay Demirli, Toronto. Tied four-ways for tenth place are Laura Jian Xiao, New Westminster, British Columbia; Leanne Fontaine, Lorette, Manitoba; Yanping Wu, Richmond Hill, Ontario, and Christina Macintyre, Mississauga, Ontario.
